Healing Requires Potentiality, Persistence, and Patience

Nov 06, 2024

I want to share some more of my healing journey because I have heard from so many of you about your own health experiences. I realize no one person is alike, but I feel there are universal aspects of healing that can help all of us, whether that’s physical, emotional, mental or spiritual.

Healing requires potentiality, persistence, and patience.

Potentiality

The first tenet of healing in my opinion is potentiality. There must be a strong conviction that a desired outcome is possible. Without this, the healing has no solid foundation. It is based on hope and nothing else. We need to maintain hope, but there is more to healing than hope. We must have an unflinching belief that absolute and complete healing is possible.

Quantum physics shows that there are an infinite number of possible outcomes to any action. The physical world is changed by simply observing it. There are many realities and possibilities in our cosmic range of possibilities.

“It’s the act of our watching something-that is, conscious observation-that locks one of those possibilities into place as our reality.” Greg Braden, The Divine Matrix.

This is like seeing ourselves across the finish line or clearing the high jump. We see the future as now. Any competitive athlete or performer understands seeing the endgame with absolutely no doubt.

So we have to see our healing as a fact as if it has already happened over and over every single day.

For about six months after my diagnosis with PD, I kept seeing how I couldn’t do things as before. I was losing the capacity to sit in stillness, unable to play music at the correct tempo, or make my arms do the right motions in zumba class. The Qi Gong sessions were all about making myself better rather than entering and becoming one with the flow of Qi.

My efforts were all about trying to restore my body to its previous capacity. This meant that it was all about making the disorder and dysfunction of my body go away.

It wasn’t until I approached each activity as if I was healed; as if the activity itself had meaning rather than being a vehicle for making me better that I started to see things change.

Meditation and sitting now resumes as my connection to the infinite whether I am shaking or not. Playing the piano becomes nourishment for my soul, even if I must play slowly. Zumba is about having fun dancing, even if my hand gets spastic. Qi Gong now unites my body, mind, and spirit with presence and flow even if my hands are shaking like crazy.

Everything I do is now about doing it with deep gratitude as if I am already healed.

Neville Goddard, author of The Power of Awareness, instructs: “make your future dream a present fact.”

Persistence

The second tenet of healing is persistence and this is difficult unless the first tenet is in place. One has to keep going even when symptoms get worse or doubt creeps in.

I have come to understand that healing is never linear. I watch my symptoms ebb and flow, up and down with bad days and incredibly good days. Just because there are bad days does not mean it’s not working.

Coming to a place of holistic health means some systems are improving and take time to affect the entire system. I accept that everything doesn’t get better all at once, but instead bit by bit. There are many symptoms of my PD that have vastly improved or completely healed, but others remain and are slowly improving with ups and downs. I have learned to focus on the wins.

This boosts my faith, my conviction, and my ability to persist in the light of setbacks.

Neville also states, “persisting in the assumption that your desire is already fulfilled…your world inevitably conforms to your assumption.”

It also helps when this has been done before.

The fact that there are folks out there who have fully recovered from PD helps me immensely. If even one person has done it, then I know for a fact that it is possible.

I realize there are many people who must swim upstream with absolutely no one ahead of them who have achieved what was previously believed impossible, but this is how records are broken, scientific theories are proven, and healing happens. One persists even when everyone is saying it can’t be done.

It does not make healing easy when the general medical community tells you healing is not possible. General Western medicine focuses on relieving symptoms and plays a particular role for our health. However, in my opinion, holistic healing is not promoted or well understood in any modality that seeks to only alleviate symptoms without looking for the cause.

Persisting, despite setbacks, sometimes feels like moving mountains.

Patience

Finally, the last tenet is patience without which none of this is possible. Since holistic healing is not linear, it takes time. We are accustomed to wanting fast results when we are geared toward symptom relief. We want to get back to our lives as quickly as possible without really pondering the true cause.

That cause has disturbed a multi-dimensional, interactive system that requires the whole picture to emerge. The components of that picture include the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of our being. When they come into balance, health is restored, and that is not a quick fix symptom relief method.

It takes time and how much time depends on a person’s willingness to accept what is. That acceptance facilitates understanding and freedom from what has been distorting the balance. One cannot focus on physical symptoms and ignore emotional or spiritual discord.

I cannot compare my progress or lack there of with anyone else because my imbalance is particular to me. I listen and observe as much as I can in order to understand my circumstances. In the end, it is not me finding the solution or perfectly implementing a certain protocol that will heal me. It is surrender to a higher power than myself that will free the grip of my own egoism.

I must push against my egoism which is always in a hurry to succeed. Patience allows me to be kind to myself, to accept what is happening, to take good care of myself, trust in higher powers and move forward in gratitude.
